Named in honor of Barry Hockenberry, a founding Board member and current CHEERS Board Chair. Barry was part of the original planning committee at Berryville Graphics when Heritage was just an idea. Since then, he has remained part of the organization as it evolved and added two additional sites. His devotion to CHEERS and the children serve in unwavering.
A parent and teacher approached the Heritage administration with the idea of turning an unused classroom into a library for the children. Early on, this project was titled, "The Sky's the Limit," as more staff and parents jumped on board to help with the planning and execution. The project wrapped up in May 2015 and officially opened on June 11, 2015 with a dedication ceremony.
The structured to offer children programs that build self-esteem and confidence by being respectful, positive, accepting, and caring. The classroom environments utilize a process-oriented curriculum that meets or exceeds state standards for early learning, and teachers facilitate the development of life-long learning skills that are especially important for school-age youth making independent decisions on an increasing basis. Brain-based learning techniques emphasize cooperation, connection and non-violence, and establish rituals, routines and reliability to foster a sense of safety. Donations for the library are necessary for the library to continue to grow.. Your tax-deductible donation will be used to maintain the cost of replacing books and towards adding technology to check in and out books. For every $25 donation, a bookplate will be placed in a children's book of your choice.
