PALS-PreK is a scientifically-based phonological awareness and literacy screening that measures preschoolers’ developing knowledge of important literacy fundamentals reflects skills that are predictive of future reading success.

Amongst four pilot studies conducted by Curry School of Education at UVA, it was determined that if a child scored a minimum summed score of 56 on the PALS PreK, the child would likely achieve the PALS benchmarks in kindergarten and first grade (Rotz, 21-22).
