Standards of Learning
The following Standards of Learning are what is expected for children in Kindergarten in Virginia. This exhaustive list shows what our curriculum addresses and that we meet or exceed Virginia SOL’s for our Preschool II classes. Our children are going to be advanced and more confident Kindergarten students.

Oral Language
* Listen to a variety of Literary Forms

-We teach them to listen to their friends or teachers and then they can respond
Reading and Literature
* Understand how print is organized and read
-Library center for book exploration
-Lessons on how to handle books (We have a check out policy so they can learn responsibility for books)
-Sequencing cards to teach left to right

-Reading stories at circle time
-Drawing pictures and explaining what it is
* Basic Phonetics
-Teach the sound that each letter makes

Writing
* Name Writing

History
* History relating to events, people, and places

Geography
* Relative location of people, places and things
-Up/down, near/far, left/right etc.

Math
* Students shall count forward to twenty and backwards to ten
-Counting during calendar
-Using one to one correspondence
-Count backwards from ten when timer is about to go off
-Sequencing cards (understanding first, next, etc.)
* The student will recognize a penny, nickel, dime, quarter
