Preschool II
4-5 years:
In Preschool II, teachers spend more time preparing children for Kindergarten, engaging them in readiness activities to increase their attention span, expand their ability to follow multi-step directions, increase their number recognition, practice their ability to write upper and lower case, and recognize sight words. The concept of “homework” is also introduced! Don’t worry though - children spend time outdoors playing, and are encouraged to self-select their play during Center time, allowing them to continue learning through play.
The teacher-to-child ratio is this classroom is 1 to 12 at Children First, and 1 to 10 at Heritage. Differences in West Virginia and Virginia Licensing Standards dictate each program’s classroom ratios.
